The UC Hopland Research and Extension Center (HREC) invites you to celebrate science and nature with us at our spectacular site.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of HREC through interactive field activities led by prominent scientists in their respective fields. Enjoy lunch, followed by our annual auction.
Your attendance and support directly benefit Hopland Scholars, nurturing curious minds from youth to early career researchers, fostering a lifelong commitment to discovery and research of our natural world.
Field session options may include:
- Museum tour and skull identification - visit the specimens of the HREC museum with Bob Keiffer and Emilio Chavez.
- Oak woodlands regeneration - help to protect young oaks at HREC and learn about efforts to support our oak woodlands with the Quercus Collaborative.
- HREC research safari - explore behind the scenes of research projects with Greg Solberg.
- Nature journaling - Learn how to take notice of the nature around us with GrizzlyCorps Fellow Lilyana Elola.
- Sheep and cattle - Meet the HREC flock with head shepherd Alison Smith and learn about the ways in which they help research and education.
- Walking Moai - A hike with the Blue Zones team.
- Drones - how are drones used to support research at HREC? With Shane Feirer, IGIS.
- Prescribed and wild fire - How is HREC supporting fire research with John Bailey, HREC Director.
We encourage you to dress comfortably for outdoor exploration and varying weather conditions.
